Works just as it is advertised too

Reviewer: Eric Bickers,
No problems getting this phone to work with Skype on my Windows XP PC. Have not tried it on my Vista systems yet but then again the system requirements do say Windows XP or 2000 so if it does not work with Vista (or any other operating system) I would not give it a one star rating. Clarity is just as good if not better than my Logitech ClearChat headset so I'm very happy with it. Was able to walk around outside the house and clarity/reception were still just as good as being close to the docking station.
Works great under Windows 7 64 bit. Has super sound quality.

Reviewer: Charles Johnston,
Been using Skype on my Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop quite happily for a few months now. My only concern after those months was being physically 'tied to the computer' to be able to 'use my phone' (Skype is my only telephone service of any kind) So the search for a cordless phone began. This 3J-W1D cordless Skype USB phone fills my needs 100%. The included software installed effortlessly and afterwards a system reboot got Skype and SkypeMate (the phone's software client)in sync and I was immediately able to call people from wherever in my home I desired. I need to clarify an erroneous review here. This phone DOES come with a battery that is shipped inside the same packing sleeve the phone comes in but not obviously so. Hence I suspect the other reviewer probably threw his battery out with the rest of the packaging. Anyway if you look closely it is impossible NOT to see the battery tucked in it's own little cardboard 'doghouse' formed within the phone's own cardboard packing sleeve. The batery is white and only about the size of 2 USA first class postage stamps placed side-by-side. It thickness is about a 1/4" at the moct. The attached wiring (which one needs to plug into the phone) is so very tiny. My fat 59 yr old fingers were able to do it. I suggest you enlist the help of a child to avoid stress and swear words! Anyway the phone works fine it duplicates the contacts list from your pc-based Skype program. I have yet to test the advertised 160 ft range but since it is adequate for me at home (about 50 ft max)I am pleased. Maybe some sunny morning (or starry night) I'll stroll out onto the veranda and call someone. BTW here is a link to the owner's manual (pdf) should you like to see that pre-sale. [...]The phone is entirely powered from any available USB port. My battery was partially charged when I installed it and I was able to make some calls to test it for any issues. Once I placed it on the base (which includes a nice sounding speaker phone)it indicated it was charging for abour 3 hours (flashing led) then finally fully charged (steady led). The handset display is black and white with a very nice 'blue glow' background lighting. I find it easily readable and quite attractive too. One pleasant surprise is the feel of the phone in your hand. It is about 3/4 scale size of a 'normal' landline cordless phone but the tactile response (what it feels like to the touch) is a smooth yet gently 'grippy' somewhat soft rubber-like texture. It feels great and is not likely to slip out of your hands easily.

My only complaint is i have yet to see how to change the 24 hr format time to 12 hr am/pm format. It seems to mimick the installed Skype pc software which I don't think has an option or a Skype 'Extra' for this selection. I sent an email to the manufacturer in Gilbert,AZ about this but so far no replie. (How many times have we read similar words ..eh?) Here is the homepage for this phone's manufacturer [...] Lastly while on it's base the time is easily readable in about 3/4" high bold black letters and beneath that in smaller text it says "Let's Skype" so it makes for a handy clock too depending where you place it and that is what led me to wanting to set it from 24 hr format to 12 hr am/pm. Right now it is 1:04 pm but my Skype phone says it is 13:04 and makes me feel I'm back in the Army again.

I would HIGHLY recommend anyone looking for a realtively inexpensive Skype-based cordless USB-powered phone to try this one out. Bought mine from Amazon through the $2.99 overnight shipping Amazon Prime account (30 day free trial is well worth it..hehe!)

BUY THIS PHONE!!!

Excellent phone

Reviewer: J. Chong,
I've bought this item about a month ago for myself, and i'm really enjoying it. The quality of the sound and the battery life is excellent. I've talked for about 3hrs once, and had no trouble with battery dying out or anything. I only wish it had headphone plug capability, but other than that, i would definitely recommend this phone. I've recently purchased another one for my parents and they are loving it too. It's very easy to use.
The best skype phone for me

Reviewer: KonichiwaBaby,
To start yes I know Konichiwa is spelled wrong but that's the way I like my screen name, lol. Now on to the review. I bought this phone based on ohter reviews and figured maybe i should try it because I got tired of sitting at the computer to talk when I do that for 8hrs a day at work. The laast thing I wanna do is be tied down to the pc at home. My phone arrived today and need I say it arrived quickly. The set up was basic and simple. The cd however did nothing for me during set up. I does state on the box you need windows 2000 or xp, so I went online as it says in the user manual to [...] and downloaded it for vista. the download took seconds. I then went into my documents on the pc after I could not see the green phone icon and double clicked on skypemate. the phone came right up and imported all my skype contacts. I called my sister right away in california from the east coast and the call was crystal clear. I think i'm going to buy one for all my sisters to have. I love this little phone. Now I can lay in bed on my pc and not have to shout across the room. If you have skype this is the phone to get. I even went out back to the trash while talking and the quality was awsome. I can't wait to get the skype tv and tv webcam. If you have not seen thet skype enabled tv and webcam bar check it out it looks hott. In a nut shell, buy this phone you will not regret it. you will love it and the freedom it provides. :)
worth it: great product

i use skype all the time, and this hand-held phone is a great option for skype users.
the issue with skype is having to be sitting at the computer talking into a mic or into the keyboard. a "skype phone" eliminates this odd phone calling situation, but ONLY if your skype phone is at least in some way cordless/hand held. most skype phones are wired from the phone to the computer. this one is cordless in the sense that the actual phone can be picked up and used as a normal cordless phone, though the base is "corded" and connects to the computer via a cord.
the screen and controls are simple, which is good for use but also means it is a little limited in what it can do. but these limitations are only regarding the potential of the product, and users won't really be wanting it to do anything it doesn't already do.
overall, this is a great item for anyone using skype or another online/computer-based phone service.
it's great to be able to call someone for free online, and still pick up a phone to wander around the house/office!
